Alpha Capital Max Risk Rule Audit: Per-Asset Limits, 10-Minute Clause and Sizing + COMPARE50

Alpha Capital's Max Risk Rule closes a Qualified account when combined losing exposure on a single asset reaches 3% on $5K–$25K accounts, 2% on $50K–$200K accounts, or 1% on any Alpha Direct account. It applies to accounts purchased after the 21 July 2026 announcement, sits on top of the daily and overall drawdown floors, and is the rule most often missed by traders who scale into positions.

This audit explains how the rule is measured, works through the dollar thresholds for every size, shows the 10-minute reopen clause, and gives a sizing method that keeps each asset under the limit. Source: Alpha Capital's official Max Risk Rule article and plan pages, reviewed on 1 November 2026. Coupon codes COMPARE50 (50% off a first purchase) and COMPARE (30% off later purchases) do not change this rule.

The rule in one table

Qualified sizeStandard models (Pro, One, Swing)Alpha Direct
$5,0003% = $1501% = $50
$10,0003% = $3001% = $100
$25,0003% = $7501% = $250
$50,0002% = $1,0001% = $500
$100,0002% = $2,0001% = $1,000
$200,0002% = $4,0001% = $2,000

Reaching the threshold closes the account. It is not a soft breach or a warning.

How exposure is combined

  • All open losing positions on the same asset are summed.
  • Winning positions on that asset do not offset the losers.
  • The measure is floating loss on the asset, not margin or lot size.
  • Different assets are measured separately; EURUSD and GBPUSD are not combined, even though they are correlated.

Example on a $100K Pro (2% = $2,000): three EURUSD longs at −$900, −$700 and −$500 total −$2,100 and breach the rule, even though a fourth EURUSD short at +$1,200 would net the asset to −$900.

The 10-minute reopen clause

Closing a position on an asset and reopening in the same direction within 10 minutes combines the closed loss with the new position's loss for the purpose of the rule. A trader who takes a −$1,200 loss on GBPUSD, re-enters long two minutes later and goes −$900 on the new trade is at −$2,100 on a $100K standard account and breaches.

Waiting more than 10 minutes, or re-entering in the opposite direction, starts a fresh measurement.

On a $100K Pro 8%, the daily floor allows $4,000 of total loss, but the Max Risk Rule allows only $2,000 of it on any single asset. A trader fully concentrated in one pair effectively has a 2% daily limit, not 4%.

Sizing method

  1. Take the account's threshold (e.g. $2,000 on a $100K standard).
  2. Decide how many entries you may add to the asset (e.g. 3).
  3. Set each entry's maximum loss to threshold ÷ entries, minus a slippage margin (e.g. $600 each).
  4. If you scale in, do not add a position whose stop would push combined floating loss past the threshold.
  5. After a stop-out, wait more than 10 minutes before re-entering in the same direction.

Which accounts are exempt

The official article applies the rule to accounts purchased after 21 July 2026. Accounts acquired before that date keep their original terms. Evaluation accounts are not subject to the Qualified Max Risk Rule, but the daily and overall floors apply at every stage, and Alpha Direct, which is Qualified from purchase, is covered at 1% from day one.
