Alpha Capital publishes a defined list of prohibited trading strategies, and several of them can cost a trader an evaluation pass or Qualified profits without any drawdown breach. This audit groups every restriction from Alpha Capital's prohibited strategies, trade duration, EA, copy trading, IP and news policies, states how each is measured, and lists what remains allowed.
Rules reviewed on 1 November 2026. Coupon codes COMPARE50 (50% off a first purchase) and COMPARE (30% off later purchases) change the price only.

The prohibited list
| # | Practice | Measured by | Consequence |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Average trade duration ≤ 2 minutes, or < 50% of profit from trades > 2 minutes | Duration policy | Phase 1 restart (evaluation) or profit removal and balance reset (Qualified) |
| 2 | Position spamming: ≥ 3 positions in the same exposure, each within 60 seconds of the previous | Prohibited strategies policy | Review, profits removable |
| 3 | Latency or price-feed exploitation | Prohibited strategies policy | Account action |
| 4 | Arbitrage | Prohibited strategies policy | Account action |
| 5 | High-frequency trading | Prohibited strategies policy | Account action |
| 6 | Group trading, reverse trading, group hedging across accounts | Prohibited strategies policy | Account action |
| 7 | Third-party account management | Prohibited strategies policy | Account action |
| 8 | Fully automated trading bots | EA policy | Account action |
| 9 | Copying another trader or signal group | Copy trading policy | Account action |
| 10 | Executing inside the 5-minute Qualified news window (Pro, One, Direct) | News policy | News profits removed; losses stand |
| 11 | Undisclosed shared IP, VPN or VPS | IP policy | Review |
| 12 | 30 days without a trade | Inactivity policy | Deactivation |
Two-minute duration rule: two tests, not one
The rule has two parts and both must pass:
- Average trade duration across the relevant trades must exceed two minutes.
- At least 50% of the relevant profit must come from trades lasting more than two minutes.
For evaluations the relevant profit is the targeted profit; for Qualified accounts it is gross profit above the initial balance.
| Scenario | Average duration | Profit from > 2-min trades | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 trades, avg 6 min, 70% of profit from long trades | Pass | Pass | Compliant |
| 20 trades, avg 6 min, 40% of profit from long trades | Pass | Fail | Breach |
| 20 trades, avg 1.5 min, 60% of profit from long trades | Fail | Pass | Breach |
A few quick exits are fine. A strategy that makes most of its money in sub-two-minute bursts is not, even if a handful of long holds drags the average over the line.
Position spamming: the 60-second pattern
Three or more positions in the same intended exposure, each opened within 60 seconds of the one before, is the published pattern. Opening three EURUSD longs at 10:00:00, 10:00:40 and 10:01:15 matches it. Genuine scaling with wider spacing, or with different stops and targets that reflect separate decisions, is treated differently, but the burden is on the trader to show the entries were not one order split for execution advantage.
Automation: approved EAs only
| Activity | Status |
|---|---|
| Fully automated strategy that opens and closes trades on its own | Prohibited |
| MT5 risk-management or trade-assistance EA (trailing stops, partial closes, breakeven) | Allowed only if selected at checkout and pre-approved |
| EA on a Qualified account | Must have been enabled and used in the evaluation |
| EA on cTrader, DXtrade, TradeLocker | Not available |
| EA on Swap-Free, Direct or Focused Trader Group accounts | Not permitted |
Enabling an EA button in the platform does not grant permission; approval is a separate step.
Copy trading: your own accounts only
Copying between accounts you own is allowed with prior authorisation and account details supplied to the firm. One master account at a time; an external master must belong to you. Copying from another trader, a group or a signal service is prohibited, and copying on or from cTrader, DXtrade and TradeLocker is not available under the published policy.
Qualified news window
On Qualified Pro, One, Three and Direct accounts, no order may open or close an affected instrument from five minutes before to five minutes after a listed announcement. Pending orders, stop-losses and take-profits that fill inside the window count. Holding a position opened earlier is allowed. Swing uses a different rule: a trade opened within two minutes of a release must last more than two minutes. Evaluation accounts are unrestricted.
IP, VPN and account operation
Sharing a household IP with another Alpha Capital trader, or using a VPN or VPS, requires advance notice. Each person may operate only their own accounts; household traders must trade different assets under the $400,000 household allocation cap.
